cabin boys
Young maritime servants
Cabin boys were young male servants on ships, typically teenagers who performed menial tasks for officers and crew—fetching meals, cleaning quarters, running messages.
The role was often an entry point into seafaring life, with boys eventually advancing to other positions.
The term is historical; modern equivalents would be called stewards or crew members.
