by-blow
Born outside marriage
A by-blow is an illegitimate child—one born outside marriage, especially from a casual liaison.
The term is old-fashioned and literary: The duke acknowledged several by-blows but kept them from the succession.
By extension, a by-blow can be an incidental or unintended consequence of some action.
