butter churn
Dairy fat maker
A butter churn is a container with a dasher or paddle mechanism used to agitate cream until it separates into butter and buttermilk.
Traditional churns were wooden barrels or ceramic crocks with a plunging handle; the user would pump the dasher repeatedly until the fat globules clumped together.
Once a common household tool, butter churns are now mostly antiques or used by hobbyists.
