bus tokens
Fare payment discs
Bus tokens are small metal or plastic coins purchased in advance and used as fare payment on public transit systems.
They function like prepaid tickets, deposited into a farebox when boarding: I keep a few bus tokens in my pocket for emergencies.
Largely replaced by electronic fare cards, tokens remain in use in some cities and persist as a symbol of urban public transportation.
