bump-out
Small structural extension
A bump-out is a small extension added to a building, projecting outward from an existing wall to create additional interior space.
Unlike a full addition, a bump-out typically extends only a few feet and doesn't require its own foundation: We added a bump-out to the kitchen for a breakfast nook.
The term is standard in residential construction and remodeling.
