bull elephants
Herd's dominant males
Bull elephants are adult male elephants.
The term distinguishes them from cows (females) and calves (young).
Bulls are larger and more solitary than females, who live in matriarchal herds.
During musth—a periodic hormonal state—bull elephants become aggressive and unpredictable.
