bubble rings
Divers' aquatic halos
Bubble rings are toroidal air bubbles—doughnut-shaped pockets of air that spin as they rise through water.
Dolphins and whales blow them as apparent play, and human divers create them by exhaling carefully underwater.
The rings maintain their shape through rotational physics, expanding and wobbling as they ascend: She watched the dolphin chase its own bubble rings.
