breadboards

Solderless wiring bases

Breadboards are flat boards used for constructing experimental electronic circuits without soldering.

Components and wires push into a grid of holes connected by metal strips underneath, allowing quick assembly and modification: I prototyped the amplifier on a breadboard before designing the PCB.

The name comes from an earlier sense—a wooden board for slicing bread—which hobbyists once used as bases for mounting components.
