box cutters
Package-opening blades
Box cutters are small handheld tools with retractable razor blades, used for cutting cardboard, opening packages, and slicing through tape.
The blade typically extends from a metal or plastic handle and can be pushed back in when not in use.
Also called utility knives or Stanley knives (British).
The term gained darker associations after the September 11, 2001 attacks, when hijackers used box cutters as weapons.
