book matches
Cardboard striking starters
Book matches are matches bound in a small cardboard folder, with the striking surface on the outside.
The matches tear away from stapled rows inside.
They became ubiquitous as promotional items—restaurants, hotels, and bars printed their names on the covers.
Also called matchbooks, though that term emphasizes the container while book matches emphasizes the matches themselves.
