bolshy

Refusing to comply

Bolshy means uncooperative, rebellious, or bad-tempered—someone being difficult for the sake of it: Don't be so bolshy about helping out.

British slang, from Bolshevik, though the political connection has largely faded.

The word now simply describes stubborn contrariness rather than revolutionary sympathies.
