blues scales
Soulful musical ladders
A blues scale is a musical scale used in blues, jazz, and rock, characterized by the inclusion of "blue notes"—typically flatted thirds, fifths, and sevenths that give blues its distinctive melancholy sound.
The most common form adds a flatted fifth to the minor pentatonic scale: She practiced the blues scale until she could improvise over any twelve-bar progression.
