blue coral
Azure marine cnidarian
Blue coral is a colonial marine animal found in tropical Indo-Pacific waters, distinguished by its blue skeleton—unusual among corals, which typically have white calcium carbonate skeletons.
Despite its name and appearance, blue coral is more closely related to soft corals than to the hard reef-building corals it resembles.
The skeleton is sometimes used in jewelry.
