blood spots
Crimson droplet stains
Blood spots are small red or brown specks found in egg yolks, caused by a blood vessel rupturing during egg formation.
They're harmless and edible, though many people remove them for aesthetic reasons: She fished out the blood spot with a spoon.
Blood spots also appear on skin or fabric as tiny marks from bleeding.
