blackmail notes

Blackmail notes are written demands for money or other concessions, threatening to reveal damaging information if the victim doesn't comply.

The classic form is an anonymous letter with words cut from magazines: The blackmail note demanded $50,000 or the photos would go public.

The format—often assembled from mismatched typefaces to avoid handwriting identification—has become a visual cliché in crime fiction and ransom scenarios.
