beer bellies

Beer bellies is the plural of beer belly, the protruding gut associated with heavy drinking.

The fat accumulates around internal organs rather than just under the skin.

Despite the name, any excess calories—not just beer—contribute to abdominal weight gain: Half the guys at the reunion had beer bellies.
