beaver trapping
Rodent pelt harvesting
Beaver trapping is the practice of catching beavers using traps, historically for their pelts and castoreum (a secretion used in perfumes).
Once a major North American industry driving exploration and trade, it declined after beaver populations crashed in the 19th century.
Today it continues on a smaller scale for fur, wildlife management, and population control: Beaver trapping season opens in November.
