beard stroking
Pensive facial hair touching
Beard stroking is the act of thoughtfully running one's fingers through a beard, associated with contemplation or deliberation.
The gesture extends figuratively to describe ostentatious displays of intellectual pondering, often with a hint of pretension: There was much beard stroking at the philosophy seminar before anyone ventured an answer.
