bar dice

Bar dice is a gambling game played in bars, typically using five dice and a cup.

Players shake and roll to achieve poker-like combinations—three of a kind, straights, full houses.

The loser usually buys a round of drinks.

Rules vary by establishment, with countless local variations: We played bar dice to see who'd cover the tab.

Also called liar's dice or poker dice, though these names sometimes indicate specific rule sets.
