Ball-point pens is the plural of ball-point pen, a writing instrument that dispenses ink through a rotating metal ball at the tip.
The ball rolls as you write, picking up ink from a reservoir and depositing it on paper.
Introduced in the mid-twentieth century, ball-points largely replaced fountain pens for everyday use: I grabbed a ball-point pen from the drawer.
