backup codes
Emergency login tokens
Backup codes are one-time authentication codes provided when setting up two-factor authentication on an account.
They serve as a fallback when the primary method—like a phone app or text message—is unavailable.
Each code works only once: I lost my phone but got into my email using a backup code.
Services typically generate eight to ten codes and recommend storing them somewhere secure.
