A backlit display is a screen illuminated from behind, allowing visibility in low light.
LCD screens on laptops, phones, and televisions use backlighting—typically LEDs—to make the image visible.
Before backlit displays, screens required ambient light to read: I couldn't check my phone in the dark until backlit displays became standard.
