backfields
Behind the line
Backfields is the plural of backfield, referring to either the area of an American football field behind the line of scrimmage or the players who line up there—typically the quarterback and running backs.
The term appears when discussing multiple teams or formations: Both teams had strong backfields this season.
In a single game, you'd usually say "the backfield" rather than backfields.
