baas

Cries from ewes

Baas is an Afrikaans word meaning boss or master, used historically in South Africa as a form of address by Black workers to white employers or overseers.

The term carries strong associations with apartheid-era racial hierarchy and is now largely avoided except in historical contexts: Yes, baas.

In Dutch, from which Afrikaans descends, baas simply means boss without the racial connotations.
