ascorbic
Orange juice's nutrient
Ascorbic appears almost exclusively in ascorbic acid, the chemical name for vitamin C.
The word comes from roots meaning "without scurvy"—the disease that ascorbic acid prevents.
Outside chemistry and nutrition labels, the term is rarely encountered.
