art opening
Exhibition's first night
An art opening is a reception held to launch a new exhibition at a gallery or museum.
Guests view the work, mingle, and often drink wine while the artist circulates.
The event marks the first public showing: We're going to an art opening downtown tonight.
The atmosphere tends toward social performance as much as art appreciation.
