areolae
Rings around nipples
Areolae is the Latin plural of areola, the pigmented ring surrounding a nipple.
In anatomy, areola can also mean any small circular area, such as the colored part of the iris or the area around an inflamed spot.
The anglicized plural areolas is equally correct: The areolae darken during pregnancy.
