ancient sculptures
Old carved figures
Ancient sculptures are three-dimensional artworks created by early civilizations, typically carved from stone, cast in bronze, or molded from clay.
The term usually refers to works from classical antiquity—Greek and Roman pieces—but extends to Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and other pre-medieval cultures.
Many survive only as fragments or Roman copies: The museum's collection of ancient sculptures includes several headless torsos.
They remain central references for later artistic traditions.
