anaerobically
Sans atmospheric oxygen
Anaerobically means without oxygen.
The term appears most often in biology, describing processes that occur in the absence of oxygen: Bacteria that live anaerobically thrive in oxygen-free environments.
In exercise physiology, anaerobic activity involves short bursts of intense effort where muscles work faster than oxygen can be supplied: sprinting anaerobically.
