air bladders
Gas-filled swim organs
Air bladders are gas-filled sacs that provide buoyancy.
In fish, the air bladder (also called a swim bladder) allows the animal to control its depth without expending energy swimming.
Some aquatic plants have air bladders that keep leaves or fronds afloat.
The term also applies to inflatable compartments in packaging, life vests, or other equipment.
