aeolian harp

Wind plays it

An aeolian harp is a stringed instrument that produces sound when wind passes over its strings, creating ethereal, shifting tones without human touch.

Named for Aeolus, the Greek god of wind, it was popular in Romantic-era poetry as a symbol of nature's voice or divine inspiration.

The strings are tuned to the same pitch but vary in thickness, so the wind draws out different harmonics.
