acoustic recordings
Mic-only sound documents
Acoustic recordings are sound recordings made without electrical amplification, capturing audio through purely mechanical means.
Before the mid-1920s, performers sang or played into a horn that channeled sound waves directly to a cutting stylus, which etched grooves into wax or metal.
The term now distinguishes these early recordings from later electrical and digital methods: The label reissued acoustic recordings from the 1910s.
