accountability buddies
Mutual commitment friends
Accountability buddies are two or more people who agree to check in regularly on each other's progress toward goals—exercise routines, writing projects, sobriety, or any commitment that's easier to abandon alone.
The arrangement adds social pressure: knowing someone will ask Did you go to the gym? makes skipping harder to justify.
Unlike coaches or sponsors, the relationship is typically mutual and informal.
