academic speak
Professorial prose style
Academic speak is the formal, jargon-laden style characteristic of scholarly writing and discourse.
It favors abstraction, passive constructions, and specialized terminology: The study interrogates the problematics of identity formation.
Often used critically to describe prose that obscures simple ideas behind unnecessarily complex language.
Also called academese.
