Yahoos

Uncouth, uncivilized people

Yahoos, from Jonathan Swift's *Gulliver's Travels*, were brutish, filthy humanoid creatures representing humanity at its worst.

The term now refers dismissively to people considered crude, rowdy, or unsophisticated—the kind who might cause trouble at a bar or shout obnoxiously at a sporting event.

A bunch of yahoos were setting off fireworks in the parking lot.

The word carries clear contempt, suggesting boorishness and lack of refinement. (Capitalized Yahoo is also the internet company.)
