Walter Freeman
Walter Freeman (1895–1972) was an American neurologist who popularized the lobotomy in the United States, performing thousands of the brain surgeries—many with an ice-pick-like instrument through the eye socket.
Once celebrated, he became infamous as the procedure fell into disrepute.
His name now evokes medical hubris and the dangers of psychiatric treatments imposed without adequate understanding or consent.
