Wall of Sound

Dense production style

Wall of Sound is a production technique in popular music that layers multiple instruments and voices to create a dense, reverberant sound.

Developed by Phil Spector in the 1960s, it treats the recording studio itself as an instrument, using echo chambers and orchestral arrangements to produce a massive, unified sonic texture: Those girl-group records had that classic Wall of Sound.

The technique influenced generations of rock and pop production.
