US territories
Unincorporated American regions
US territories are regions under American sovereignty that aren't states—including Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
Residents are generally US citizens or nationals but lack full voting representation in Congress and cannot vote in presidential elections.
The term also covers minor outlying islands and, historically, lands that later became states.
