Tulip Revolution
Bishkek regime change
The Tulip Revolution was the 2005 uprising in Kyrgyzstan that ousted President Askar Akayev following disputed parliamentary elections.
Named for the flower that symbolized the movement, it followed the pattern of other "color revolutions" in former Soviet states—Georgia's Rose Revolution and Ukraine's Orange Revolution.
The Tulip Revolution brought hope for democratic reform, though subsequent governments proved unstable.
