Toll House cookies

Classic chocolate-chip variety

Toll House cookies are chocolate chip cookies, the original version of the now-ubiquitous American treat.

The name comes from the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts, where Ruth Wakefield created the recipe in the 1930s by adding chopped chocolate to butter cookie dough.

The name appears on Nestlé chocolate chip packages, though most people now just say chocolate chip cookies.
