This Is America
Patriotic opening statement
"This Is America" is a 2018 song and music video by Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) that became a cultural phenomenon for its stark commentary on American gun violence, racism, and entertainment.
The phrase now functions as sardonic shorthand for pointing out disturbing contradictions in American society—violence normalized alongside cheerful distraction, systemic problems ignored while spectacle continues: Another mass shooting and nothing changes—this is America.
