The Getaway

Criminal's swift exit

The Getaway is a 1972 action film directed by Sam Peckinpah, starring Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw as a couple fleeing after a bank heist.

The title has become shorthand for stylish crime-and-escape narratives.

More generally, a getaway is an escape, especially from a crime scene: The robbers made their getaway in a stolen car.

It also means a brief vacation or retreat: a romantic weekend getaway.
