The Forum
Caesar's public square
The Forum refers to the central public square of ancient Rome, a marketplace and gathering space where citizens conducted business, politics, and social life.
Today it survives as archaeological ruins, a major tourist destination.
By extension, any public space for open discussion may be called a forum: The town hall became a forum for debate. (Lowercase forum is the general term for a discussion space.)
