The Dirty Dozen
Condemned soldiers' mission
The Dirty Dozen refers to a group of twelve, typically notorious or problematic in some way.
The phrase gained currency from the 1967 war film about twelve military convicts recruited for a suicide mission.
It now labels various lists of twelve undesirable things—particularly the Environmental Working Group's annual list of produce with the highest pesticide residues: I always buy organic for items on the dirty dozen.
