The Boondocks
Middle of nowhere
The Boondocks refers to a remote, rural, or undeveloped area far from urban conveniences—the middle of nowhere: They live way out in the boondocks.
The word comes from Philippine Tagalog *bundok* (mountain), brought to American English by U.S. soldiers.
It's also the title of Aaron McGruder's comic strip and animated series about a Black family who move from Chicago to the suburbs, playing on the idea of cultural displacement.
