Swadeshi movement
Boycott British goods
The Swadeshi movement was an early twentieth-century Indian independence campaign promoting domestic goods and boycotting British imports.
Swadeshi means "of one's own country" in Sanskrit.
The movement encouraged Indians to spin their own cloth, buy Indian-made products, and reject British economic control: Gandhi's spinning wheel became a symbol of the Swadeshi movement.
The strategy aimed to weaken British commercial interests while building Indian self-reliance.
