Soviet industry
USSR's planned economy
Soviet industry refers to the centrally planned manufacturing and production systems of the Soviet Union (1922–1991), characterized by state ownership, five-year plans, and emphasis on heavy industry over consumer goods.
The phrase often carries connotations of inefficiency, quotas met on paper but not in quality, and massive scale at the expense of flexibility: Soviet industry prioritized steel output over refrigerators.
