Sixers
City of Brotherly ballers
Sixers is a nickname for the Philadelphia 76ers, the professional basketball team in the NBA.
The name derives from the year 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia.
Fans and sports media use Sixers almost exclusively in casual reference: The Sixers are looking strong this season.
The term occasionally appears in other contexts to describe groups of six or things numbered six, but the basketball association dominates contemporary usage.
