Simon de Montfort
English baronial leader
Simon de Montfort names two prominent medieval French nobles, father and son.
The elder (c. 1175–1218) led the Albigensian Crusade against Cathar heretics in southern France.
The younger (c. 1208–1265), 6th Earl of Leicester, led a baronial revolt against Henry III of England and summoned what is sometimes called the first English parliament—an assembly that included commoners alongside nobles.
Both died in battle.
