Senate trial
Congressional removal hearing
A Senate trial is the proceeding in the United States Senate to determine whether an impeached federal official should be removed from office.
The House of Representatives impeaches (formally accuses), but only the Senate conducts the trial, with senators serving as jurors.
A two-thirds vote is required for conviction: The Senate trial of President Clinton ended in acquittal.
